Double Happiness
Our friends Shuchen and Eric got married! This is our first Taiwanese wedding so we were super excited to be invited. We’ve gotten to know these two cuties since we moved to Taiwan (they live in Taipei). Eric is the younger brother of our friend Philippe, who lives in Portland with his wife Rachel. Philippe and Rachel are dear friends so naturally we got to know the whole family over the past five years. At the wedding we had the chance to meet Shuchen’s family and now we know where her contagious smile comes from.
This intimate wedding ceremony took place at Shuchen’s father’s art gallery in the small town of Miaoli (about 30 minutes north of us).

Double Happiness
Double Happiness is a ligature, “囍” composed of 喜喜 – two copies of the Chinese characters 喜 literally meaning joy and is pronounced as a polysyllabic Chinese character, being read as 双喜 (shuāngxǐ). It frequently appears on traditional decorative items, associated with the lunar new year celebrations. (source: wiki)
Xibing (喜餅)
Every guest received Xibing, which is a traditional wedding cake (two of them) plus a tin of cookies wrapped in beautiful red packaging. Considering this wedding was the same weekend as our Cinco de mayo party, you could say we gained some pounds.
We felt lucky to be invited to this celebration and had a wonderful time! Congratulations to Eric and Shuchen and xiexie to their families. We enjoyed spending the day with all of you!
With love and double happiness to all,

Great post Sarah! You did an excellent job explaining, and the photos are wonderful too. I am so glad you could come!
Loved seeing the pictures from the wedding!! It loves like it was beautiful and it’s fun to see a wedding in pictures from a different culture.
