Guests: Kani & Aki

Boston/San Fran friends reconnecting in Taichung

Kani & Aki rolled in right after our expat Thanksgiving dinner for a lovely extended weekend. Aki and I met way back in Boston thanks to our “friend glue” Dorothy (some 15 years ago). Then we all (including Dorothy) migrated to San Francisco at different times where Aki and Kani currently reside. Turns out these two had never been to Taiwan and thought this was a swell time. We couldn’t agree more!

Huang Yung-Fu, the man behind Rainbow Village

Huang Yung-Fu was born in 1924. He began painting houses in his settlement, now known as Rainbow village, to save them from demolition. When he’s not painting, he’s signing postcards and posing for the paparazzi.

More foot massages! Kani’s addicted.

These smooth pebbled massaging walkways are all over the city. This one is at the National Museum of Fine Arts, which has beautiful grounds to explore. It’s also right across the street from our apartment!

Thanks for coming to Taiwan, Aki & Kani!

It was really joyful to reconnect after all these years. We have a feeling we’ll be seeing you in Japan or Sri Lanka next. Stay in touch and come back again so we can explore more on your “Must see in Taichung” list! Ok, just come back for more foot massages… 90 minutes!
